Lake Worth Fishing Pier - 9ft Hammerhead Shark caught on 4/0

Postby boghy » Thu Apr 28, 2011 5:00 am

On Feb 3, 2011 myself and few other fisherman we managed to successfully land a 9ft Hammerhead Shark using Penn 4/0 reel spooled with 500yds of 100lb braided line. The fish was hooked around 9PM and was landed two hours later, 11PM.
With this occasion i would like to thank everyone who helped to battle the shark with this light setup!
The hole setup was:
Crowder rod EBR8030 8' long 30-80lb line class;
Penn reel 113HL (4/0 Left Hand retrieve);
500yds of 100lbs braided line (purchased on ebay from china);
10' long at 130lb mono leader (Striker);
7' 131lb hard wire leader, doubled up 20" at the hook;
within the wire leader 2ft from the hook i had 200lbs swivel, then another 5ft of wire (7ft total wire leader)
16/0 mustad circle hook;
electrical tape wrapped from the hook barb all the way on the doubled hard wire - about 10" of wrapping;
one cut piece of stingray - about 4-5lb bait.
With this setup i was able to cast about 20yds from the end of the Lake Worth Fishing Pier, FL.

Here are some pictures about that fight:

15 Ft Great White Shark in South Florida, Lake Worth Pier

Postby boghy » Mon May 09, 2011 2:58 pm

On 04/26/2011 a 15 ft Great White Shark was seen swimming by just few yards away from Lake Worth Pier, FL. As unusual as may sound, same size shark was also reported, days before, few miles away while a commercial boat fished in Deerfield Beach area. The captain and his crew were offshore in 200ft of water. As of today nobody knows for sure if these two reported appearances are from same shark swimming in South Florida waters, or were two different Great White Sharks.
Harvesting Great White Sharks in Florida as well as in many other countries is strictly prohibited, since they are protected species.

Went today on the pier and got broken off few times and finally caught a nurse shark.
There were few Spanish Macro caught and two big jacks. Baits like sardines were everywhere!
